Data as Product for Sustainable Data Eco Systems
Abstract:
As organizations increasingly rely on data-driven decision-making, the traditional data pipeline model struggles to scale across distributed teams, domains, and use cases. The Data as a Product (DaaP) paradigm offers a modern approach by treating datasets as discoverable, trustworthy, and reusable products with clear ownership, quality guarantees, and user-centric design. This paper explores how AWS native services can be leveraged to implement the DaaP framework in a scalable, secure, and cost-effective manner. By combining Amazon S3 and Redshift for storage, AWS Glue and dbt for transformation, and Lake Formation for governance, teams can operationalize data ownership and self-serve analytics. Additionally, orchestration with Step Functions, observability with CloudWatch, and access through Athena and API Gateway enable a seamless data product lifecycle. The architecture empowers cross-functional teams to manage their own data domains while maintaining centralized governance—delivering data that is not just available, but reliable, interpretable, and ready for consumption
