From Prototype to Production: Lessons Learned Building and Scaling Platform Systems
Abstract:
Building a prototype is one thing and getting it to run reliably at scale is another. Many systems work perfectly in the lab but struggle under real-world conditions, where failures, growth, and operational complexity reveal hidden challenges.
I’m sharing the lessons we learned the hard way while taking systems from the lab to the real world. We’ll talk about the practical side of scaling: isolating failures so the whole house doesn't come down, handling state without the headaches, and building in the kind of observability that actually tells you what’s going wrong before your users do.
Rather than theory, this session focuses on patterns and strategies that are immediately actionable. Attendees will come away with a clear playbook for turning prototypes into resilient, maintainable platforms and for avoiding common pitfalls that only show up once systems are under real load.
