Leading Dell’s Journey from SKU-Based to Subscription-Based Model

Abstract:

The technology industry has been undergoing a fundamental shift from traditional product-based commerce to subscription-driven service models. Dell’s New Commerce Experience (NCE) program, initiated in late 2021 and completed in early 2024, marked a pivotal moment in this evolution, transforming how the company sells, delivers, and sustains customer value across its software and cloud portfolio. This keynote explores the journey of developing a scalable, cloud-native subscription platform designed to transition Dell’s proprietary and partner software products from the legacy SKU-based model to a unified subscription ecosystem. It highlights how a 300-million-dollar investment was directed toward creating a modern, microservices-based architecture that replaced decades of SKU-centric processes with intelligent, flexible, and recurring models of engagement.Drawing from hands-on experience leading a large-scale program involving 12 departments and 25 Agile teams, Joyjit shares insights on large-scale Agile delivery, enterprise-wide coordination, and modernization at scale. The session covers architectural vision, DevOps transformation, stakeholder alignment, and key lessons learned while navigating funding, design conflicts, and cross-departmental execution challenges.By the end of this keynote, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how product strategy, technical depth, and disciplined program leadership combined to drive Dell’s digital transformation toward a subscription-based, cloud-enabled future.
