2nd International Conference on Sustainable Computing and Intelligent Systems (SCIS 2025)

Mr. Pradeep Chandramohan

Modernizing-AI : Building Tomorrow's Green Technology

Abstract:

"Modernizing AI: Building Tomorrow's Green Technology," addresses the escalating environmental impacts of AI and data centers, including a projected 128% surge in energy consumption from 2022 to 2026, CO2 emissions rivaling the aviation industry, massive water usage (up to 700,000 liters per AI model training), and e-waste projections of 1.2-5 million tons by 2030. It outlines practical strategies for sustainable computing, such as defining precise model objectives to reduce computational bloat, leveraging edge computing for 40-70% energy savings, prioritizing high-quality data to minimize training waste, adopting lightweight models for efficient deployment on devices, and implementing MLOps for optimized lifecycle management, version control, and proactive monitoring. The talk concludes with a call for collaboration to assess AI footprints, advocate for industry standards, and align with UN Sustainable Development Goals like SDG 7 (Clean Energy) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), fostering responsible innovation in green technology.
