AI-Driven BDD to Playwright Code Workflow

Abstract:

Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) has become a widely adopted approach in software testing, enabling clearer communication between stakeholders through structured, human-readable scenarios. Despite its benefits, the process of translating BDD feature files into executable automated test cases remains largely manual, requiring considerable effort from Quality Engineers (QEs). This manual approach often leads to inefficiencies, delays, and inconsistencies in test automation.  This project explores the use of Generative AI (GenAI) to streamline and enhance the BDD testing process. By leveraging advanced natural language processing and code generation capabilities of GenAI models, the goal is to automate the conversion of feature files into executable test scripts. Additionally, the project focuses on establishing best practices for prompt engineering, ensuring reliable, context-aware outputs from GenAI tools.  Through experimentation with various GenAI techniques and prompt strategies, this work aims to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of BDD automation. The outcome is expected to empower Quality Engineers with AI-assisted tools that reduce manual workload, accelerate testing cycles, and contribute to more robust software delivery pipelines.

Seasoned IT professional with over 17 years of experience in Software Testing across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC). Proficient in testing Web and Client-Server applications with strong expertise in Functional, Integration, System, Regression, and Data-driven testing. Skilled in developing test plans, test cases, test scripts, and test data, with hands-on experience using tools like HP ALM/Quality Center, Test Director, UFT 12.5, and Selenium. Adept in defect tracking, SQL query writing, and database testing on RDBMS platforms including DB2 and MS SQL Server. Experienced in both Agile and Waterfall methodologies with domain knowledge in Insurance and Finance.
