AI Augmented Data Modeling for Scalable Semantic Layer

Abstract:

This work examines how AI supported techniques are reshaping data modeling for modern data ecosystems. As the scale and complexity of enterprise data continue to grow, traditional manual modeling approaches face limits in speed, consistency, and adaptability. The paper explores how machine learning, natural language processing, and knowledge representation improve core modeling tasks through automated relationship inference, pattern recognition, schema discovery, and metadata enrichment. It highlights the role of ontology based systems, profiling methods, and virtual knowledge graphs in building semantic clarity across diverse data assets. The study also reviews advanced applications such as real time schema drift detection, predictive performance optimization, and intelligent normalization guided by actual workload behavior. Integration with DevOps pipelines enables continuous refinement and validation of evolving models. The findings show how AI enhanced methods help organizations move from concept level modeling to production ready semantic layers that stay aligned with changing business and technical requirements.

Profile:

Ravi Teja Medempudi is an accomplished BI/Data Analytics Specialist with over 12 years of expertise in designing and implementing scalable analytics platforms across the financial services and healthcare sectors. Currently serving as Director of Advanced Data Analytics & Research at Fidelity Investments, Ravi has led enterprise-wide initiatives including the migration of over 400 dashboards into a unified semantic layer, improving dashboard performance by 10x and reducing cloud data costs by 25%. His strategic contributions have enabled streamlined decision-making through robust semantic data models and real-time executive KPI dashboards supported by AI/ML-powered outlier detection. Ravi also played a key role in the development of Fidelity’s Unified Customer Profile, projected to save approximately $43 million through centralized communication management. His earlier roles at Shields Health Solutions and CIT Group further underscore his ability to deliver high-performance, data-driven solutions, contributing to Medicaid/Medicare compliance and enterprise risk management, respectively. Technically proficient in a wide range of tools, including Tableau, Qlik, Power BI, Looker, Snowflake, SQL, and Python, he is also certified in multiple Microsoft and Qlik BI technologies. Ravi is currently pursuing a Master’s in Computer Information Systems from Colorado State University, complementing his earlier academic foundation in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences. With a strong grasp of data governance, cross-functional collaboration, and performance optimization, he stands out as a results-oriented leader in modern BI and analytics architecture.
