Environmental Management Framework for Sustainable ICT Systems

Abstract:

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) systems such as ATMs, transport ticketing machines, and self-service kiosks operate continuously, consuming significant energy and generating paper and electronic waste that often go unmeasured. These systems are integral to modern digital infrastructure yet are rarely included in environmental-management studies.
This talk presents a systems-based environmental-management framework designed to integrate sustainability directly into ICT operations. The framework, developed in alignment with ISO 14001 principles, combines modular hardware, software-driven energy optimization, predictive maintenance, and circular-economy practices. It enables organizations to monitor performance through measurable environmental indicators such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, and component reuse.
The session highlights how engineering and management teams can adopt structured sustainability processes that align technology performance with long-term environmental objectives. It provides a practical roadmap for creating accountable, resource-efficient digital systems that support both operational reliability and environmental responsibility.

Profile:

Sapan Pandya is a Senior Software Engineer from the United States with more than a decade of experience in designing, developing, and deploying large-scale, high-performance technology platforms. His expertise spans full-stack development, system architecture, microservices, and edge-computing solutions supporting complex, regulated environments.
He has led end-to-end engineering for lottery and retail sports betting platforms across multiple U.S. states, focusing on secure transaction systems, modular architecture, and reliable field-deployed terminals. His professional interests include system scalability, software reliability, and sustainable technology practices.
