Next-Gen Performance Engineering: From APM and Observability to Compliance-Driven Site Reliability

Abstract:
In today's cloud-native, real-time world, performance is no longer a backend concern; it's a strategic differentiator. Whether in healthcare, finance, or digital platforms, milliseconds matter, and downtime has direct business and compliance consequences. Yet too many organizations still treat performance and observability as reactive practices, addressing issues only after they occur.
This talk will provide a practical, forward-looking framework for building performance by design, integrating DevSecOps, observability, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles into the DNA of modern application development. Drawing from two decades of experience leading platform modernization across Fortune 500 healthcare systems, I will share how to shift performance left, define meaningful SLIs and SLOs, and enforce continuous compliance through automated pipelines.
Attendees will explore real-world strategies for moving beyond traditional monitoring, leveraging AI-powered observability, real user monitoring, and end-to-end tracing to uncover not just “what” failed, but “why.” We'll also address the emerging need for security-integrated observability, privacy-preserving telemetry, and ethical performance engineering in regulated industries.
This session is ideal for technology leaders, architects, DevOps professionals, and computer science students seeking to enhance system reliability, mitigate technical debt, and deliver measurable value through user-centric performance. By the end, you'll be equipped with actionable insights to architect applications that are not only fast and scalable but also resilient, auditable, and future-ready.
