Serverless Architecture: Transforming Cloud Economics and FinOps Strategy

Abstract:

As organizations increasingly embrace cloud-native architectures, serverless computing has emerged as a game-changing paradigm—reshaping not only how applications are built and deployed but also how cloud costs are governed. In this talk, I will explore the transformational impact of serverless architecture on modern FinOps strategy and cloud economics. Drawing from my published research, I will discuss how serverless shifts financial accountability from infrastructure provisioning to execution-based optimization, enabling precise cost alignment with business value. Through comparative insights across virtual machines, containers, and serverless models, we’ll examine workload-specific economic trade-offs and real-world use cases that highlight the dramatic cost savings and performance gains achievable with serverless adoption. The session will also cover the evolution of FinOps practices in serverless environments—from new KPIs like cost-per-execution and cost-per-transaction to the organizational changes required for embedding cost efficiency into the development lifecycle. We’ll look ahead to trends such as edge serverless, adaptive execution environments, and AI-driven optimization tools that are redefining the future of cloud financial management.
