Modernizing Healthcare Master Data Management (MDM): Harnessing Real-Time Processing, IoT, and Blockchain
Abstract:
The presentation proposes a modern architectural framework for healthcare Master Data Management (MDM), integrating real-time processing, Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain to address longstanding inefficiencies in data accuracy, trust, and interoperability. Traditional MDM systems struggle with fragmented sources, high latency, and centralized control. In response, a four-layered architecture is proposed, comprising IoT data acquisition, real-time stream processing, blockchain-based trust validation, and a unified MDM layer that aligns with HL7/FHIR and regulatory mandates such as HIPAA and the 21st Century Cures Act. Validated through empirical case studies including smart ICU implementations and Estonia’s national blockchain health system, the model demonstrates improved identity reconciliation, reduced duplication, and real-time patient record updates. The approach supports federated governance, patient-controlled data access, and scalable interoperability. The framework provides a comprehensive blueprint for transforming healthcare data infrastructure into a secure, patient-centric, and responsive ecosystem, driving the next phase of digital health innovation.
