Role of Data Science & AI in Debt Recovery and Financial Wellness

Abstract:

Rising levels of global debt have created an urgent need for innovative, scalable solutions that go beyond traditional recovery approaches. Debt is not only a financial burden but also a challenge that impacts mental health, trust, and long-term stability. Conventional interventions often react too late, missing opportunities for early support and personalized engagement.
This keynote explores how Data Science and Artificial Intelligence can reshape the landscape of debt recovery and financial wellness. By leveraging advanced data engineering pipelines and real-time analytics, financial institutions can detect early warning signals of distress from diverse sources such as credit records, behavioral patterns, and even sentiment expressed on social platforms.

Machine learning models—including risk classifiers, sentiment analyzers, and recommendation engines—can be applied to identify individuals most at risk, predict their readiness to accept help, and guide them toward tailored financial wellness plans. Beyond immediate recovery, AI can foster empowerment through personalized dashboards, digital coaching, and proactive educational resources.

By shifting the paradigm from reactive debt collection to proactive empowerment, organizations can improve early intervention success rates, reduce average debt burdens, and enhance long-term financial stability. This keynote demonstrates how AI, when combined with empathy and ethical responsibility, can transform debt recovery into a pathway for lasting financial confidence and well-being.
